Transportation Insurance

At Royalty Truck Insurance, we get that all of the differentiation among different types of commercial truck insurance can be confusing.  I mean, can a brotha just get some dump truck insurance without hanging on the phone for hours with a commercial truck insurance agent, getting confused and guarding against unnecessary up-selling? The answer is yes!!!

Dump truck insurance, like TONS of other variations of big truck insurance needs to be specialized.  Why?  Because hauling organizations and companies oftentimes have a fairly limited budget for business costs, but they also use pretty heavy machinery—even light duty dump trucks have moving parts and can result in serious injury if not used responsibly. (more…)

Additionally, there are lots of different employment situations for commercial truck drivers—those that work independently and contract themselves out vs. those that work for motor carriers. In different instances, the burden of financial responsibility falls on either the operator or motor carrier.

But in reality, commercial truck insurance doesn’t have to be that confusing.  In essence, required commercial truck insurance varies based on the size of the truck, the cargo and type of carrier. (more…)

Okay, new business idea: You know those trendy lunch trucks popping up all over Los Angeles?  The ones who have turned the traditional “roach coach” into cool themed mobile restaurants that actually serve good—sometimes even gourmet—food?

Well the entrepreneurs responsible for their emergence as a staple of Los Angeles luncheons should be looking to Beijing for their next investment—the now 11-day traffic jam that’s occurring on National Highway 110 has become 62 miles long and is expected to last through September!!!

What’s worse, the vast majority of Chinese trucks are not equipped with nearly the same amenities as the typical American rig—rather, the cabins are more like little boxes meant to comfortably house a single driver distraction-free while driving.  The concept may be great, but unfortunately, it assumes the driver is actually moving and needs to pay attention to the road.  Currently in Beijing, drivers are moving at a pace that would make racing with a snail an interesting competition, moving less than 1/3 of a mile per day. Next time you’re hauling through the congested freeways of Los Angeles, Chicago or New York, thank your lucky stars…because truck drivers in Beijing are suffering through a lot worse than just a few hours of rough traffic.

Drivers near the Chinese capital have likely been wishing their commercial truck insurance providers could provide traffic jam insurance since August 13th, and the so-far 10-day traffic jam on National Highway 110 is expected to last through September, according to reporting by the Wall Street Journal Online.

Though China’s capital is under heavy construction to add alternate routes and build lane additions to the bottleneck freeways that cause the bulk of the congestion, experts say it’s those very construction projects that are temporarily causing the world-record delays. (more…)

The California Court of Appeals has just dropped the gavel on a four-year-old case that could have been avoided altogether with better customer service from a truck insurance company serving California.

The ruling was in favor of the commercial truck insurance company, who defendant and Los Angeles resident Roland Polanco accused of negligence that resulted in his arrest that allegedly triggered a seizure and cost him further medical bills.  The commercial truck insurance agent allegedly failed to call Polanco’s bank to verify his identification after receiving call from Polanco’s girlfriend and learning the bank had authenticity concerns regarding a check they had issued to him.

Polanco suffered a neurological disorder and is currently receiving checks from a workers compensation insurance policy the truck insurance company covered him under.  Only later, after Polanco was arrested and suffered a seizure, did the insurance agent call Los Angeles police to verify the authenticity of the check. Royalty Truck Insurance knows that the truck driving industry represents one of the largest work forces in the United States. There are over 3.2 million truck driving jobs in the country according to the US Department of Labor statistics and the industry is projected to grow steadily in the coming years higher than the rate of new drivers are developing.

With over three million drivers that need commercial truck insurance out there, we at Royalty have come to understand the business pretty well.  Unfortunately the trucking industry was no exception to layoffs and job closures at the dawn of our current recession—the biggest in this country since the Great Depression.  Shipping needs dropped by about 20% almost immediately with the recession, but recent statistics and quarterly business earning published by the big shipping conglomerates seem to suggest that the industry is picking back up, so much so that they are suggesting a current shortage of truck drivers. If ever there was an example of a dump truck owner needing top quality commercial trucking insurance, it comes in a recent sentencing of a Wisconsin man named Michael Frambs.  Frambs, a resident of the small Northern Wisconsin town of Eau Claire, stole a dump truck in June of last year and took it on a parade of destruction in the front yards of the residential suburb Lake Hallie, slamming it into two houses and three parked cars at 11:00pm while the families were occupying their homes. Not only that, but an Eau Claire police officer had to physically jump into the dump truck passenger door to stop Frambs from causing any more damage.  Initially, Frambs tried to push the officer out of the truck, but he was eventually overpowered and cruised to a stop. Just as the current trend in American cinema is to take advantage of 3D technology to give films a greater impact on audiences and garner them more overall attention, so has the 3D concept begun to permeate the marketing and advertising world.

Mobile billboards have been a popular form of advertising for years, as they allow trucking companies to gain some extra revenue and are usually a lower cost to advertisers than traditional billboards, as installation and maintenance of vehicle-sized ads are substantially less than their building-sized counterparts.  Studies have also shown that mobile advertising is effective, gaining a significant amount of consumer attention that’s in line with that of traditional billboards. At Royalty Truck Insurance, we do our best to make sure that all of our carriers are covered in the event of an accident.  But accidents involving large trucks can be extremely serious, and though covering you and your trucks with liability insurance is essential, your insurance should only be your second line of defense against accidents; prevention and safety should be the first.  Truck safety is of the utmost importance in avoiding serious injury or fatalities associated with commercial accidents, and it is imperative for all companies and drivers to ensure they are not putting themselves in compromising positions that can increase the risk of crashes.
