Motor Carrier insurance can encompass a number of trucking insurance policies, but none may be as important as the ones that protect employees, such as workers compensation insurance.

While workers compensation insurance is often required for all company employees, independent drivers who work on a temporary basis may not be covered by the motor carrier insurance policies.  Independent owner/operators may not be covered under a contracted employer’s workers compensation policy and may need separate occupational accident insurance.

Employers will find much needed protection from lawsuits is a vital part of workers compensation insurance and a large benefit for holding the policy within their motor carrier insurance.  They cannot be sued for further damages by employees who were injured on the job and had their medical costs covered by the company policy.
